About SRF
About us

Research inspired by Africa

Synergy Research Foundation is a leading African biomedical research institution dedicated to transforming health through innovative, regionally relevant science. We harness cutting-edge genomics, bioinformatics, metabolomics, and translational research to address critical health challenges affecting African populations.
Our specialised centres advance discovery and solutions in microbiome science, placental and maternal-fetal health, preeclampsia, human papillomavirus and cervical cancer prevention, prostate and urinary tract cancers, and male reproductive biology.

Focus Areas

Centre for Microbiome Science

Explores microbial communities that inhabit the human body and influence health, disease and therapeutic response

Centre for Placenta Innovation and Discovery

Research on the placenta, maternal-fetal health, pregnancy outcomes and early-life determinants of adult health

Centre for Preeclampsia Discovery and Solution Hub

Investigates preeclampsia’s biological mechanisms to develop early detection tools, preventive strategies and therapeutic approaches.

Ubuntu Centre for Papilloma Virus

Researches the biology, transmission, vaccine response of human papillomavirus (HPV) and HPV-related cancers across African populations

Centre for Urinary Tract and Prostate Cancer Research

Investigates early detection, risk stratification, genetic/environmental drivers, &novel therapeutic approaches of Urinary Tract & Prostate Cancers in African communities

Male Reproductive Biology and Translation

Research on the placenta, maternal-fetal health, pregnancy outcomes and early-life determinants of adult health

Projects

Project:
A research unit that explores microbial communities in the human body and their influence on health, disease and therapeutic responses, through advanced sequencing, bioinformatics, metabolomics, metatranscriptomics and translational research
Scope: Microbiome Science & Reproductive Health
Started: March 2024
Lead: Prof. Moses Obimbo
Project: A Unit that leverages Obimbolab's network to move scientific discoveries into practice, from microbiome therapies to placenta-derived diagnostics to HPV vaccine studies and male reproductive interventions
